Setup Guide
Get MiniAi running in under a minute. Since the app is distributed as a DMG (not through the App Store), there are a couple of extra steps.
Download & Install
Get MiniAi onto your Mac.
Apple Silicon & Intel · macOS 14 or later
- Open the downloaded DMG file
- Drag MiniAi to your Applications folder
- Eject the DMG
First Launch (Gatekeeper)
macOS blocks apps from unidentified developers by default. Here's how to allow MiniAi.
- Double-click MiniAi in Applications
- macOS will show an "unidentified developer" warning — this is normal
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security
- Scroll down and click "Open Anyway" next to MiniAi
Or: Right-click the app → Open → Click "Open" in the dialog.
Grant Accessibility Permission
MiniAi needs Accessibility access to read your selected text.
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- Find MiniAi in the list and toggle it on
- The app's onboarding will guide you here too
You're Ready!
That's it. MiniAi is ready to use.
- Select any text in any app
- Press ⌥ Space
- MiniAi explains it instantly
Troubleshooting
A Keychain password prompt appears?
MiniAi uses the system Keychain to securely store your session. If a prompt appears, enter your Mac login password and click "Always Allow". You won't see it again on subsequent launches. It may appear once right after an update.
App won't open after update?
Remove MiniAi from Accessibility settings and re-add it. Ad-hoc signing changes the app hash on each build.
⌥Space doesn't work?
Check that Accessibility permission is enabled in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
No response?
Check your internet connection. If you've hit the daily usage limit, it resets the next day.
